VENOUS DRAINAGE OF THE HEART

Posted on 7:43 PM by know about heart

Most of the venous blood of the heart drains into right atrium through coronary sinus. The remainder of the blood is return to the right atrium by anterior cardiac vein and venae cordis minimi.
Anterior cardiac veins:-
The anterior cardiac veins are three or four in number. There are small veins, start from right ventricle and end in right atrium through foramina minimarum.
Coronary sinus:
It is the largest and widest venous channel of the heart. It is about 2-3 cm long. It lies in the posterior part of the atrio-ventricular grove.
Tributaries of Coronary sinus:
1) Great cardiac vein: It starts from the apex of the heart. Then it passes upwards along the interventricular groove. Then it joins with the coronary sinus after winding round the left border of the heart
2) Middle cardiac veins: It accompanies the posterior ventricular artery and joins the middle part of coronary sinus.
3) Small cardiac vein: It is situated in the atrioventricular groove. It accompanies the right coronary artery in the right posterior coronary sulcus and joins the right end of the coronary sinus. It receives the left marginal vein close to its termination in coronary artery.
4) Oblique vein of left atrium
5) Posterior vein of the left ventricle
6) Right marginal vein
DEVELOPMENT:
Coronary sinus: It develops from the left horn and body of the sinus venosus.
