ARTERY SUPPLY OF THR HEART

Posted on 7:41 PM by know about heart

The heart is supplied by two coronary arteries. Right coronary artery and left coronary artery. Coronary artery is arises from ascending aorta.
Right coronary artery:
Right coronary artery is smaller than the left coronary artery. It arises from the anterior aortic sinus of the ascending aorta. It first passes forwards and to the right between the pulmonary trunk and right auricle. It then runs downwards in the right anterior coronary sulcus to the junction of the right and inferior border of the heart. It winds round the inferior border of the heart. Here it runs backwards and to the left in the right posterior coronary sulcus to reach the posterior interventricular grove. It terminates by anastomosing with the left coronary artery.
Right coronary artery supplies-Right ventricle (except a small strip right to anterior interventricular sulcus), A part of the left ventricular diaphragmatic surface, posterior inferior one third of interventricular septum, Right atrium and part of left atrium, conducting system.
BRANCHES:
1st part: 1) Right conus.
             2) Anterior atrial and ventricular rami
             3) Right marginal
2nd part:
1) Right posterior ventricular rami
2) Posterior interventricular artery.
Left coronary artery: It is larger than the right coronary artery. It arises from the left posterior aortic sinus of ascending aorta.
Course: After origin, the artery runs forwards and to the left and lies between the pulmonary trunk and left auricle. Reaching the atrioventricular sulcus, the left coronary artery divides into anterior interventricular and circumflex arteries. The anterior interventricular artery is the continuation of the left coronary artery, descends along the anterior interventricular sulcus. Most after it turn around the apex into psoterior interventricular grove where it anastomoses with the posterior interventricular artery branch of right coronary artery. The circumflex artery winds round the left border and enters into the posterior part of coronary sulcus. Then it anastomoses with the right coronary artery.
Area of Distribution:
1) Left ventricle
2) Atrium
3) Anterior-Superior 2/3 of interventricular septum
4) A small strip of right ventricle.
Branches:
1) Anterior interventricular artery:
A) Right and left anterior ventricular
a) Left diagonal
b)) Left conus
B) Anterior septal.
2) Circumflex artery:
i) Atrial rami
ii) Left marginal
 iii) Posterior ventricular
Coronary artery are called functional end arteries because they have precapillary anastomosis but that is insufficient to provide the collateral circulation.
