LEFT VENTRICLE

Posted on 7:32 PM by know about heart

The shape of left ventricle is conical. It forms the apex of the heart, some part of the sternocostal surface, most of the left surface and the two thirds of the diaphragmatic on inferior surface of the heart. It receives oxygenated blood from the left atrium. Then it pumps the blood into the aorta.
Feature:
It has three surfaces: anterior or sternocostal left, inferior or diaphragmatic. The cavity of the left ventricle is circular in cross section.
Interior of left ventricle:
It consists of two tracts inflow tract and outflow tract.
Inflow tract: Inflow tract is rough and consists of
1) Left atrioventricular orifice with mitral valve complex that includes mitral annulus, two mitral valve leaflets (anterior and posterior), and chordae tendineae.
2) Trabeculae carnae: It includes ridge, bridge, and papillary muscles (anterior and posterior).
Out flow tract or aortic vestibules: It is smooth. Summit of the vestibule is occupied by aortic annulus which is guarded by three semilunar cusps-one which in front and two behind. Above each cusp the ascending aorta presents three dilation known as aortic sinuses (Anterior, right and left posterior).
DEVELOPMENT:
Smooth part of left ventricle is developed from conus cordis.
Rough part of the left ventricle is developed from primitive ventricle.
