HEART RATE

Posted on 12:29 AM by know about heart

It is the number of heartbeats or heart contraction in a minute. Another name of heart rate is cardiac rate.
Normal Value: The normal value is 60 to 90 beats/min.
Tachycardia: If heart is rate increase above 100 beats/min then it is called tachycardia.
Bradycardia: If heart rate decreases below 60 min then it called Bradycardia.
Causes of increase heart rate:
A. In some normal condition, heart rate can be increase-
1)    When we do physical exercise sympathetic stimulation of the heart is increase, also body temperature and venous return is increase their condition increase heart rate.
2)    In some condition such as emotion, excitement and high anxiety heart rate increase.
B. Abnormal condition where heart rate increases
1)  Fever-it stimulates Sino atrial node that increase contraction of atrial muscle, thus heart rate is increased.
2)  Hypovolemic shock –in hypovolemic shock, sympathetic activity of heart is increased and this causes increase rate.
3)  Hyperthyroidism.
Causes of decrease hear rate:
A. In some physiological condition, heart rate is decrease such as:
1)  In athletes at rest
2)  When we sleep
B. In some abnormal condition, heat rate is decrease:
1)  When increase intracranial pressure
2)  Hypothyroidism
3)  In carotid sinus syndrome
4)  In sick sinus syndrome etc.
Some factors which affect heart rate:
1)  When sympathetic stimulation of heart is increase heart rate is also increase but when parasympathetic stimulation increase heart rate decrease.
2)  Age: Heart rate is progressively decrease from infancy to old.
3)  Sex: It is faster in female than male.
4)  Surface area is inversely proportional of heart rate.
